Sprouted coconuts are a rare delicacy. After the coconut fully matures and falls from the tree, it will sprout in 6 months to a year. Inside the hollow of the coconut grows a soft spongey material. Eat it plain, or blend with fruit puree and freeze to make popsicles! The coconut meat inside has the highest oil and fat content.
Sprouted coconuts contain no liquid water, so a coconut key is not required. Crack the shell with a hammer, or throw it at the sidewalk. It’s a sprouted coconut from Maui!
Use a firm coconut meat scoop to pop out the sprouted coconut and coconut meat from the shell.
